I’ve always been happy with Linux on the server, and I’ve never felt any need to experiment with OpenSolaris, until I read this bit about ZFS : ZFS is the most amazing filesystem I’ve ever come across. Integrated volume management. Copy-on-write. Transactional. End-to-end data integrity. On-the-fly corruption detection and repair. Robust checksums. No RAID-5 write hole. Snapshots. Clones (writable snapshots). Dynamic striping. Open source software. It’s not available on Linux. Ugh. Ok, that sucks.

Dickinson, a DNS consultant working on the project.

It seems that the new fashion among the hackers is to find exotic forms of verifying the most recent messages in Twitter. First, we had a “electric carbon typewriter”. Then, a customer for Commodore 64 , a computer of the 80’s. And now we have Tweetser. Headline of the Week: The Summer Doldrums (not) I, along with many others at Luther I am sure, am often asked about summertime work and how relaxing it must be around Decorah when school is not in session. While it is true things do quiet down in some ways, summer is a time when a lot of work gets done, and needs to get done in preparation for the coming school year. This summer is no exception. In fact LIS has had a number of significant projects underway, which I’ll review over the next several weeks as we slide into the fall semester.
