The seven deadly sins are, according to the FSF, the “seven major areas where proprietary software in general and Microsoft Windows in particular hurt all computer users: invading privacy, poisoning education, locking users in, abusing standards, leveraging monopolistic behavior, enforcing DRM (Digital Restrictions Management), and threatening user security.”Beside the Web site, and a public demonstration at the Boston Common, the FSF elaborated on these points in a letter to the leaders of the Fortune 500 companies.

A few weeks back Nev wrote a post asking for feedback from his readers about his blog and himself in general.  In the comments someone mentioned that they wished he would post more about his e-commerce site, House of Rave . He responded: I sincerely wish I could post more about House Of Rave since I love writing about it. I’ve refrained quite a lot to reveal less to competitors and avoid copycats. There is a DIRECT correlation between how much I write about my business and how many people immediately try to emulate it.

Tomorrow, the Department of Health and Human Services will host its first “code-a-thon” dedicated to the National Health Information Network and its Connect software. About 80 programmers, led by Apache developer (and Collabnet employee) Brian Behlendorf , will spend about four hours trying to stamp out bugs in the open source software gateway, which is based on National Health Information Network (NHIN) conventions. Behlendorf’s presence is not ceremonial, as CollabNet runs the military’s forge.mil open source forge site .

I’ve used Moodle for about four years, and in that time I’ve found it to be an exceptionally useful, high-functioning and user-friendly learning management system (LMS). In my view, the one deficiency in its suite of resources is that it is less than intuitive in the way it enables administrators, teachers, and learners to create, integrate, manage, and deliver images, audio, video, animations and other media types.Enter Packt Publishing’s Moodle 1.9 Multimedia by João Pedro Soares Fernandes.I opened my copy of the text with a high expectation that it would be an informative and  practical reference text.

Blogger.com was purchased by Google in 2003, which enabled it to grow using Google’s resources. Today, Blogger.com has an undisclosed number of millions of users blogging on their system.

I haven’t been too happy with my current podcast capturing setup, so I decided to change it. The setup did include starting up a Windows 2000 VM, starting up Juice in that, then downloading any new podcasts. I then moved the files from the VM to a directory on my workstation. At that point, I had to change the ownership of the files and then move them to a USB stick. As I said, there are way too many steps in that sequence to do every morning. Last night I installed a Linux podcast aggregator called hpodder.
