The concept of a self-branded Microsoft phone (or two) actually making it to market is more believable than ever. A deterrent frequently cited in years past was Microsoft’s vested interest in keeping its Windows Mobile hardware partners happy — but as even their staunchest supporters (think HTC and LG ) have turned to Android to shore up their smartphone lineups, it’d be far less of a backstabbing move on Redmond’s part to get into the business next year than it would’ve been in, say, 2006…

Until today, users could only use the Search Options panel to restrict searches to videos, forums, and reviews. This move should give Google Books a boost in visibility. At this point there shouldn’t be any doubt in anyone’s mind that Apple’s response to the FCC over its ban of Google Voice was rife with half-truths and some complete falsehoods. One claim that’s entered the limelight again is Apple’s statement that it hadn’t actually rejected Google Voice, but that it was still “pondering” it. Yesterday Google released its full, unedited response to the FCC inquiry, and the newly revealed content directly contradicts Apple’s statement multiple times, explicitly stating that the application was rejected.

I’m a big fan of Open Source Software. I run Linux on several servers at work… I prefer to use Open Source tools like Notepad++ and Pidgin wherever possible. It’s certainly nice getting my software for free, but that’s not the primary appeal. The main appeal, for me, is having the source code available. I’m not a programmer. I took a couple classes in college, but I can’t make heads or tails of most of this source code. But it’s available. I can download the code and run it through a compiler myself, with minimal knowledge, and be relatively certain that nobody has attached anything nasty to the binary I downloaded.
