I chauffeured LW to this meeting of Radical Women, mostly not planning to say anything, just eat (a potluck, she made fresh cabbage and corn bread), however I did sign on to the queue on invitation i.e. some of the leadership expressed curiosity about a possibly male viewpoint. Very few clients ask how we will build a website for them, or what software we use.  The question we do get is “Will I be able to edit the site myself?”  The answer is YES!  We are proud to exclusively use a content management system (CMS) called WordPress to build our websites. Why? It is the #1 blogging platform ( read more about this here ) among the top 100 blogs.  It is also used by quite a few Fortune 500 companies !  There are a lot of OPINIONS flying around out there about the best way to build a site, but instead of jumping in and forming technical arguments that are lost on most people – we just use the #1 platform and rely on the “ Wisdom of Crowds “.

A lot of people work with OpenSource Software like Firefox, Thunderbird and a lot of people contribute to this Projects as Developer, QA or with spreading the word and many other things. During the Opensource Meeting in Munich Florian Schiessl from the Munich LiMux Project gave a great talk about the Limux Project (Why they started this Project  etc ) and a lot of interesting background information.

One of my esteemed readers drew my attention to this nascent distro called Lubuntu . The goal of this distro, according to the Wiki page is “to to create a variant of Ubuntu that uses LXDE , The Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment, as its default GUI . The ultimate goal of the Lubuntu project is to earn official endorsement from Canonical.” It further continues as thus “[m]embers of the Lubuntu team take care of LXDE and other packages that are part of the planned Lubuntu install.
