Information Travels Fast

September 5th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in General

Is amazing to me how fast information flies around on the web. It is also amazing to me how many websites pop up every day. It is probably because you can use a GoDaddy promo code to obtain a domain name instantly at a great price. We are talking about a price is probably four times last and in some cases 10 times less than what they used to cost. So now it is much easier for anyone to get a site up and running instantly. About anything they want. A lot more sites are becoming niche sites in other words they are putting out information that is very specific. In other words these niche sites are about things that people love but a very specific thing in other words not about all dogs but about the specific type of dog. Which makes sense because since is online you can find millions of people around the world interested in that very niche thing. So if you’re going to create a website these days I would suggest that you focus on one particular area and then more people will be interested in that item or related products or related services.

I am forever linked with and to my Treo 700p.  It’s by far the best phone I’ve ever had.  It’s Verizon, so it has never failed me service-wise. It just has a few eccentricities of which I am growing tired, like sync that screws up for no particular reason and spontaneous rebooting. WHAT DO I WANT? I want a Treo 700p with a faster processor, larger display, and more stable OS. WHAT DON’T I WANT? You couldn’t give me an iPhone for more reasons than I have space for here.

Last week , I guided you through doing a brain dump of your experiences, education, honors, and skills.  This week, we’re going to use your notes from last week to craft a powerful student engineering resume. The point of a resume is to get you an interview.  Everything you put on your resume should demonstrate your value to a future employer in some way.  As I’ve said before, it’s a good idea to keep a watch on entry level job postings in your industry.  This gives you an idea of what employers

One of the fun events I’m involved in is Software Freedom Day Wellington , as part of the wider SFD effort. We’re planning a really fun day, with a whole bunch of things going on, as Brett’s excellent poster suggests – Barcamp At a barcamp attendees govern the agenda. We provide rooms and a flipchart and a schedule of times – the attendees decide on the discussions to be held around a variety of topics (from Education to Government, Communities to Business) that interest them at the start of the day.
Enterprise Flex: Debunking Urban Mythsflexblog.faratasystems.com

I got an email from an enterprise architect considering Adobe Flex as a platform for Web application development in their organization. This email contained a long list of questions/remarks/concerns that many of enterprise Web architects may face.  That’s why I decided to publish my short answers to these questions. I didn’t change even one word in a way the questions/ statements were made. Language: ActionScript3 is a weakly typed language This is true, and when I started using it I was also getting angry with Flex compiler that wouldn’t catch my obvious mistake.

So if you haven’t already voted, please stop on by and check out the topics presented by folks from Hot Studio and friends. Upgrading GRUB in Kubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) to GRUB2 and one solution to an error 15 boot problem. Additional insight and things to watch for if you’re making the same Grub upgrade. It must be too long since I moved from Slackware and with 12 out that’s tipped me over the edge to do some “fiddling” (aka computer admin) – silly me! How to upgrade from Grub to Grub2 I read a tutorial on howtoforge (like that on the Grub wiki ) telling me how to update to Grub2, looked easy so I tried ..

i was just thinking the other day the things that using free and open source software (foss) affords me. i decided to list them down: no viruses . windows viruses cannot run on linux systems. so i don’t have to worry much if my workstation will get infected with conficker or any other ficker for that matter. i actually tried running a windows virus in my system.  my usb stick got infected by something from a shop where i had a document printed off the stick.
