In the essay, “ Post-Medium Publishing ,” Paul Graham claims that consumers never pay for content. He begins with the observation that publishers set prices based on the cost of production and distribution of the format. The essay offers some consideration about the future of book publishing. I present a few observations and argue that consumers pay for content. The essay helps demonstrate a writing tip in the second paragraph: In fact consumers never really were paying for content, and publishers weren’t really selling it either.

Although many graphics professionals turn to Windows or Mac OS to execute their designs, Linux is far from helpless in this area. While it helps that Adobe Photoshop, the undisputed gold-standard program that most professionals use for raster graphics, runs on Linux through Wine, there are several native Linux programs that offer some of the same functionality. Furthermore, there are many free vector graphics programs that can produce infinitely scalable graphics much like what Adobe Illustrator can do.
Running a Law Firm on FOSSfreedomforip.org

Steven A. Reisler , who spearheaded the Law of the Commons Seminar here in Seattle, and Elaine Y. L. Tsiang have a great article up about running an open source legal office over at law.com. The article is realist and post out both the positive aspects and the challenges here is a sample: I am not a computer geek and, chances are, neither are you. I did not go with FOSS on my own, any more than I tell clients to try their own lawsuits or do their own brain surgery.

The nerdiest amongst you need no introduction to these, but for those of you whoever want to some information or do a little command line coding on open source software, shall I introduce you to Floss Manuals ? In my weird associative (hypertext) way of thinking, I think of the command line coding like teeth. Teeth are, in essence, living bone that can be exposed for short periods of time but need a constant evolving (replenishing) environment. This how I visualize their function.

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a cryptographic protocol that provides security for communications over networks such as the Internet. SSL encrypt the segments of network connections at the Transport Layer end-to-end. Several versions of the protocols are in wide-spread use in applications like web browsing, electronic mail, Internet faxing, instant messaging and voice-over-IP (VoIP). SSL is now called Transport Layer Security (TLS).

Dorkbot NYC is this Wednesday! Featuring the pale green and salt-forming: Torino:Margolis is a performance art team that crosses physical and psychological barriers, using invasive electronics and biomedical tools.
